Quite a different twist on the usual dystopia. I've found this book much more thought provoking than most of the the dystopias that I've read. The brave new world is not a world of dispair, of scarcity, of disease, or of danger. Because the world government has learned to control and predetermine every person there is "happiness" because no one knows any differently. Free-agency in many aspects has been taken away due to conditioning each person to think a certain way.
Yes all those "bad" things are gone, but life doesn't have meaning, you're a cog in the big machine.
At the same time you get a sense that this government is concerned about their citizens and truly wants them to be "happy", their solution for happiness was to take away some of the freedoms and choices. At one point the book talks about how they let a group of the alphas (most intelligent) run their own island and govern themselves. The results were diasterous and the alphas asked the world government to take back control.
In this world when you don't conform you're not sent for torture or reconditioning but sent to a smaller island in the world with other non-conformers to live your life as you like.
