What a quirky-a$$ book; I enjoyed it immensely! No need to have read (or reread, if you haven't for a while) the Kvothe books, as it's a complete stand-alone. P. Roth (can I call him that?) has taken a snapshot of a few days in the life of innocent l ...more

What a weird little book- I mean, look at the cover! A Peter Pan type and a unicorn! I usually veer towards fantasy rather than sci-fi, but this book fit the similar bill of blending the two genres nicely, though this one leans more fantasy 1/3 of th ...more

I really didn't think I'd like this book, but I'm happy I was convinced to read it. If I could give it another half star, I would. Some story of a defiant orphaned girl who can only connect with flowers? Puh-lease. Then I kept turning the pages, and ...more

Finally succumbed to the hype and picked this up. Lee Child has Jack Reacher narrate the story often in short, terse sentences. While this annoyed me at first, I soon found it very fitting and helpful in visualizing the character's physicality and pe ...more

I HATED this book. Well, to be fair, I only made it through the first 15 pages, but I hated the writing style so much, and felt so strongly about it, I returned the book to the store. (I've never done that before, but I guess there's always a first t ...more
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
"Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman are drinking Peet's coffee and eating zampanos in front of the Cheeseboard on Shattuck Avenue.

MC: Ayelet, I'm trying to think of a new idea for a novel. It's gotta be fresh, bold.... Something nobody's ever though..." Read more of this review »

A great young adult novel- I was a little nervous at first by the cover on the version that I have, that it may be too young. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This was a great read, and fitting for young adults and adults alike!

Think of this as today's more-socially-aware version of "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret." This is a powerful, well written, coming-of-age story that any girl can identify with (although the book does not alienate young male readers). Take a coup ...more

Never saw the movie, but I'm impressed with the writing for this young adult novel. The writing is simple and whimsical, but mature. A fun read.

I read through this in three sittings. It got such great praise from big name fantasy authors I respect, so I had very high expectations for this book. However, I'm going to give it a 4.25 out of 5. Rothfuss keeps the book moving at a perfect pace af ...more
