Despite a fairly strong start, City of Bones quickly devolves into a talky, rambling narrative with too many one-to-one Harry Potter formula correlations. The clumsy plot suffers from clumsy dialogue, with clumsy symbolism shoehorned in throughout and a climax so feeble I only realized I'd just read it when I hit the epilogue. The story needs a good ironing to steam out the wrinkles.
