I am going to use all three of the activities he suggested in the book, plus this idea I had been using about doing an "idea paper". It all has to start with expressive writing and with personal connection, then we work to shape that experience into a form that makes sense. So I am not going to introduce any form (as you recall I didn't do much of that anyway). I am really working on helping students to make the connection between academic and personal writing. I met with Mara yesterday and we worked on developing these ideas.

Jessica wrote: "Meg-
I too loved it as you can see from above.
I have lurked on this list for a long time. Sometimes I have almost quit in fits of frustration. However, I have come to see this discussion and other similar ones as really quite incredible. People who have all levels of experience with poetry engaged in discussions about form and substance and style. We need to listen to each other and try not to be dismissive (as hard as that can be). There is tremendous potential here in this public space for creating some understanding between people who have studied poetry and know a lot about it and the more general audience that often feels shut out of the world of poetry. In a classroom setting, one of us would wield considerable power, but we are all equals here in this public space, and if we can respect each other, there is great potential here.
