If you read it before sleep, you can lull yourself into nightmares....
In Crime, Irvine Welsh, returns as avenging angel of victims,and
as in "Fortune's Always Hiding" and "Marabou Stork's" ... plunges
into the depths of human nightmares. While in those two you will
never awaken from them, in "Crime" you just might...
This time , not everyone, from abuser and victim and victim seeking
revenge, descends unstoppably towards the dark and bitter ending,
beyond realization, salvation or redemption.
Crime character is braking out of victim-abuse chain, trough horrific
introspective process, where he pieces fractured self and finds deeper
understanding of this polarity in himself and thus gains understanding
and compassion to others; as well as opening his eyes towards world and
closest once, after the vicious weight lifts trough his disintegration and
eventual transformation.
This , as other Irvines books, is beautiful , with his ability to hold
you in the skin of character (downright gut-wrenching in some books),
his turn of the sentence, and all those details , that betray author for
having had first hand real life experience...
It is, truly, that only with fiction , we can describe reality, for what
it is like in those layers we inhabit. Heaven and Hell , being dimensions
across which we, as humans, expand; when we dare, or it's our time to look.
This is recommended read for Irvine lovers ; and as for others...
if you never crossed wast dark stretches of previously mentioned
books, you'll never get to the grain of hope in this one.

Another great read by Chuck,
all my Chuck ratings are of radical subjectivity,
so are the rest of Chuck's readers...
Narrative in broken english , should be no problem to foreigners...
And while we good people on goodreads quote genteel and meek,
this book offers profundity of quotes by Stalin, Trotsky, Nixon, Evita Peron and such... Great read for those with interests in psychology, early imprinting, and brainwashing .... and transformative power of love....
