After reading Her Fearful Symmetry, I must say that I can't wait to take a tour of Highgate Cemetery.

How did you decide to craft your version of the afterlife? Was it an idea that arose spontaneously as you proceeded with the novel? Or was your concept of ghosts derived from any sort of research?

In response to Sam, I too am struggling with the ending. I have not had 24 hours yet, so perhaps I'll wait to ask questions until I've settled on my opinion. It was all a bit unnerving, to say the least.

Niffenegger has created a world of her own within Highgate Cemetery, probably because she herself has behind-the-scenes access. I found it amazing how any author could take death itself and bring it to life in such a fantastic way. Her visioin of the afterlife was quite inspiring. Although I appreciated the read as a fabulously crafted story, something at the end left me feeling cold and empty.

I gave it 4 stars because, while I thoroughly enjoyed the read, I hated the disappointment I left the story with.
