This was an awesome book on several levels:
1st it was interesting to read as a historical novel of life in the south during reconstruction time. I have always thought history lessons were too barren about the details of life during this time period after the civil war.
2nd what a treasure for family history. I learned to care about each of the Tademy and Smith ancestors
3rd This book was the new Roots of Americana. I hope it is made into a movie someday. I'll be on the front row.
Of course, I also loved Cane River, Lalita Tademy prior novel. Glad both books made it on Oprah's Book Club.

I gave this book 3 star rating. It was good...but, a little too much like a Masters Thesis vs. Historical Biography. The entire book being written from an outsider perspective versus from Georgiana's perspective.
