Magic Bites takes it's time to build the world, characters, and magic system. This isn't necessarily bad, it just kind of dragged a bit until I got past the halfway point. I was really hoping to like this book. I didn't care too much for the first book in the series, but I had been told the series keeps getting better. I ending feeling the same way about this one. I actually did some speed reading just so I could finish. I don't really feel that connected to the characters. There was no pull to finish the book, but I can't stand not finishing, so I did. I didn't hate the book though, I liked the supernatural aspect and creatures, along with some of the magic system. I felt the same way about Storm Front. I am reading the second one now because I was told the series gets better, but I still feel the same. I am about 2/3 through it and I don't care if I find out what's going on.
