You said it with 'not for the depressed.
You don't read or watch O'Neill for laughs or the warm fuzzies.
His was a very bleak view of life.
I remember seeing the 1973 version of "The Iceman Cometh" with Lee Marvin and Jeff Bridges.
It started at 1 pm and I swear it was getting dark when we got out--now that was a literal long day's journey into night.

I will possibly be reading the Kite Runner next.
Right now I'm reading a book by the late great investigative reporter, I.F. Stone, "The Hidden History of the Korean War"--
Mindblowing---tells how the US, spearheaded by general Douglas Macarthur lied about who started the war and sabotaged every effort to bring it to quick negotiated settlement.
Somethings in US diplomacy never change.
Pam's reading Pat Conroy's new one, "South of Broad"--he's one of hers (and my) favorite writers.
