I've read The Hobbit many times, I don't count any more. I liked it in French, I love it in English. Tolkien had a gift in the use of language, the words seem to flow in a kind of rhythm, it's almost poetic.

This book is my first taste of Brandon Sanderson's work, and I must say I like the recipe.

At first look we recognize familiar figures: the prince, the princess, the evil priest and so on. As it is, the prince turns out to be the one imprisoned in the "tower", while the princess throws herself in a politic war against the priest, who came to take over the kingdom for his emperor.
I came to really care for the two main characters and for what they're trying to achieve, especially the quest for knowledge of the prince.

But more than the characters, what makes this story stand out is the dead city of Elantris, former city of the gods, now haunted by the cursed. An unknown event happened ten years earlier that changed the glorious city into a filthy prison, and what was once a blessing became a curse. The magic of Elantris disappeared at the same time.
The mystery of Elantris is the core of the story, while the characters are the limbs and brains that push it forward to its conclusion.

This is a really good story, with interesting characters and a mystery to uncover. All the ingredients to make a good read.

Well, the department codes (not the names) are used in addresses and on license plates.
The names are mostly useful in a conversation, when someone talks about his holidays, and then you feel a bit ignorant not really knowing in which area it is. ]]>
