I had heard a lot of negative things about this book, but I really liked it. I'm a sucker for good verses evil and for a hero that is far from perfect. Plus, I like the fact that it seems that characters we like and met in the first book will continue through the stories and the HEA are sort of in the background. Jim Heron- what a great character! And I love Dog too. Plus Eddie and Adrian-- Adrian has that whole antihero thing happening and I can't wait to learn more about him. He has a little bit of that Acheron thing going on for him, especially by the end. And as a team I think the 3 are great. Devina, well, I don't like her, but I'm certain I wasn't supposed to, so job well done there.

I usually have trouble getting into the first book any series I start, and while it was there a little, so much was familiar. Caldwell, NY is a place I'm familiar with. Plus, I really liked the little references to the BDB world. I mean the BDB boys are not named, but there are 2 of them that Marie-Terese crosses paths with and you just know who thy are. And then there is Vin's lawyer whom you met in Story of Son, the short story in Dead After Dark (Includes Dark-Hunter, Related Books #10). Oh and you get to see a lot of Trez, (Rhev's BFF), and it was fun to see him be the exact way he always is, except there is no explanation as to what he is. So if you don't know his deal, you might just think he's a thug, with the way he "takes care of things." Plus, it's always good to see Detective de la Cruz, Butch's former partner. So, those familiar things made it easier. That being said...

This is not BDB. It's a different world. And it seems that it will be leaving Caldwell. There are no vampire, no lessers, the only thing familiar is that when people smell death it's still described as a sickening sweet smell (like the lessers), but other than that if you are looking for another branch of the Brothers, do not expect that here.

I look forward to the next book, and getting some more answers. I also really hope that we learn more about Trez when I get back to the BDB series, because after LAv, he's been very present and I'm intrigued. Oh and I hope that in the end something good happens for Detective de la Cruz. He's out fighting the good fight and so much goes unresolved for him because it's supernatural.

I am curious to see what becomes of the HEA's in the books after their story. I'm excited how the overall arch plays out and what happens to Jim when his 7 missions are complete. It would seem that this series has a 7 book cap on it unless Jim has adventures between missions, and my guess is there may not be a HEA in every book, which is also exciting. Overall, I am excited to continue reading.

My biggest complaint about this book is that one of the storyline feels unfinished, but I will reserve judgment about that until the next book. I am trusting there is a reason it was left open. This Saul Weaver guy, I'm thinking maybe we'll come back to him, and his soul. But how he became obsessed with Marie-Terese was never explained. Did he first meet her at the prayer group, or to he join it to meet her? I didn't need much more about him, just where/when the obsession started. It could have been explained in no more than a paragraph. Actually in a sentence, like as he was about to go next door to shoot, he could have said, "This was the moment I've been waiting for ever since I first saw her at... {fill in the blank}" But again, maybe it will some come out.


Ok, so, I know I just said that the 2 series aren't related, but there are a lot of similarities between Vin and Vishous. They both get those horrible visions. (Horrible meaning death and destruction, not rainbows and bunnies.) They both had a thing for kinky, rough sex. And neither can handle Demerol. Combine that with the the cars- F150, BMW, Bentley... I wonder if it was conscious or just coincidence?(less) "
