<about>I live in NorCal with my gorgeous wife and two awesome kids. I'm an attorney by profession, a machinist by trade, and a writer by hobby.

My favorite genre is sci fi for two reasons: (1) I believe in the ability of humanity to learn, grow, and have compassion toward one another and other species (essentially, in the capacity to create a better life here on Earth and amongst the stars, though whether we actually will is by no means certain); and (2) sci fi allows us to explore issues in a way not possible in other literary forms, by throwing off the trappings and prejudices of the contemporary world in which we live.

Feel free to send me a friend request, as I'm still new to Goodreads and eager to meet people of similar interests -- but please PLEASE no advertisements or marketing schemes. I will drop-kick your friend request to Neptune and spit on your profile.</about>

I figure I could have gotten my niece and nephew some really good books, but the hyper-conservative parents would have been pissed, then they would have been less likely to allow their kids to stay with us next summer, thereby depriving us of the opportunity to be a good influence on some kids who desperately need some reasonable adult role models.

I guess my pain would be relieved if I ever were to, ummm ... errr ...

Anyway, what I wanted to say is that, so long as the Supremacy Clause is alive and well (I can assure you it is), all these state and local attempts to get people "medicated" are for naught. Then we got a nice break and spent eight days in Disneyland, then came home and the last week has still been too real. In fact, real life seems even more "real" (I didn't think it could get more real) when compared to the Magic Kingdom.

So anyway I hope to get back on GR soon and write reviews of recently-read material. Hope you and Richard are doing well!
