From the very beginning, I felt that The Forest of Hands and Teeth read a little bit like a rip off of The Village by M. Night Shyamalan. There are many striking similarities between the two, which really bothered me.

But a little further into the book, things started to pick up and I felt compelled to read on.

This book would have been much better had it focused a little more on the zombie infection, and how it originated. I read along in the hopes that all would be revealed somehow, whether through the scriptures of the Sisterhood, or by finding some kind of information somewhere along the way.

I was very disappointed that the book seemed to focus more on Mary and her childish dreams. Halfway through a zombie apocalypse she is lamenting her love for Travis like an angsty teenager. She can't see past her own selfish need of the ocean to want to protect those around her. And ultimately there is no resolution to this story. There is no moral lesson.
