I loved it.
I finished this book in about 2 days.
The speed and content of this book surpassed the first one with flying colors. The story never stopped and I was thoroughly entertained.

The amount of surprises and additions to the story were many. It is apparent that the author took the critiques from the first book and really turned everything around with her writing. She still has the tendency to confuse you in one paragraph before making you understand it all in the next. This has caused me to look back and reread a paragraph thinking that I missed something. It was annoying, but as I began to trust in her style, I saw how effective it really is in creating a surprise.

I will be reading the 3rd book now. I liked the first one and was a bit hesitant to pick the 2nd one up right off the bat, but I am happy that I did. It was great. I truly hope that the 3rd book lives up to this one and keeps me wanting more.

I recommend this series for anyone who enjoys fantasy and would like to learn about a truly unique type of fantasy that lives and boarders a world and city that we all know.

    			  I liked it.
I expected to anticipate every move of this book, but there were a few surprises and I was only correct in a few areas. The author did a good job at keeping you guessing or wondering.

Sometimes, I thought that a character or two betrayed their character. Sometimes they responded differently than I would have expected and that upset me since I felt it was betraying their personality. It was understandable nonetheless. They are not generic characters, but the author does a good job at getting you to understand them. There was a very shocking betrayal of character at the end that annoyed me, but I began to accept it after a while. I enjoy the surprises, but at that point it felt as if the rug was pulled out from under me and it wasn't a pleasurable experience.

The word painting wasn't as good as it could have been. I didn't get a good idea or grasp on the actual City of Bones and that was the title of book, so that part disappointed me. It was a simple scene there, though still engaging.

There were a few jokes in the book that sent me wailing with laughter. I literally stopped reading to cry with laughter because they were so witty and unexpected.

I recommend this book for people who enjoy fantasy and enjoy the idea of a Shadow World hiding behind glamors right in front of our faces.
I wasn't blown away, but I was surely entertained and I will finish the other books. (Yay, trilogy+.) I'm interested in seeing what happens next now that everything I believed during the bulk of the book has drastically changed.

I was disappointed in this book.

I usually like Christie Golden's work, but this felt very rushed and pasted together. Very short chapters seemed almost like short stories that did not move the book along. Many of them (including the trip to see Thrall - and I love him, so I generally like any mention of the orcs) seemed to be pointless filler that added nothing to the story in my opinion. I've already read about those things.

I understand that over the life of Arthas, all of these other pivotal moments in Warcraft history occurred. There had to be some reference to that, but at points it just seemed like a really bad television series that had 'recaps' of the previous episode (chapter) before it started up again. It would not have felt so horrible if she would not have used the same words and phrases. I flipped back a few times because I thought that I had bookmarked the wrong spot. She uses "reverie" numerous times with Sylvanas in the same phrasing and it was distracting - as well as a few other words that unnerved me to read so many times. It felt like the editor never read it all the way through. All of the chapters were nice stories alone, but added together were a mess. A.D.D.?

If you love Warcraft lore (like I do) you will still find many things that will be entertaining. I adore the characters and learned a lot that I did not know (the personal and intimate life of Arthas, King Wrynn's childhood trama, Jaina's early life with Arthas, etc). However, you will probably be irritated by the writing. Though, I did love the ending.

They shouldn't rush something like this out like they apparently did (probably due to the expansion release date and all). It could have been a lot smoother.
