I think Salander's choice to sleep with Blumqvist is supposed to show some sort of progress for her in dealing with a sexually abusive past. She finally chooses who she will have sex with rather than being in a position of victim. Of course, she has chosen a man well into his 40's (classic father figure?). Although her choice of partner is not necessarily wise, she has made a first step in allowing someone into her life by choice rather than having that choice made for her and against her will. We'll see in the next book whether she rises above her past or whether she is inhibited by it.

I bought Whisper in the Blood for a camping trip I'm taking next week, but I peeked and got hooked. One less book to take with me. It was very good for mystery lovers though.

I still have The Time Traveler's Wife and Almost French. Those will have to do...if I can avoid reading them before I leave that is...

Good mystery! Stabenow is a consistant writer with a good feel for plot and character. She doesn't give you too much explanation nor too little. Her clues are subtle and there are often two or more subplots going as added interest. Although this is a stand alone book, Kate Shugak is a continuing character and its more fun to read these stories from the beginning for perspective.

Great book, but definitely for adults. I will use excerpts for my high school classes, but the language is a bit much for 9th grader's parents to adjust to gracefully.

I think this book could be interesting if it weren't for the fact that it appears to be a book written by an adult trying to remember how to be a child. The whole tone is off and the point of view is too dualistic to be effective. Satrapi should have either written as an adult, or written in something other than first person as her "child" self. I find graphic novels to be distracting. I'm so busy trying to analyze the pictures I miss the import of the message.

I really loved this book. It is a wonderful example of how parents are perceived first by their children, and then later when those children become adults. Good reminder about making judgements.
