One of the most well-written books I've ever encountered. Conrad effectively combines form with emotion. The speed of the text and prose matches the intensity of events. The striking images and character themes are also enjoyable.

Unlike Coetzee's Age of Iron, which I felt was a very well-crafted work, this book fell flat. Aspects of the novel's development seemed artificial. Without a compelling sense of realism, I was disappointed.
