This is a great Austen book. It stays away from the provocative female voices of her past books, such as Pride and Prejudice, but has a great subtle plot that makes you keep reading. Also Austen's command of language, irony and satire just makes me g...more

Pretty good book - but Gilbert is a tad whiny in the first few chapters. I do appreciate her take on travel writing, but because the book was paid for before she traveled, some of it seems contrived. Either way it is a quick read that exposes you to ...more
