I really liked In Defense of Food when I read it, but on reflection doubts sort of crept in. But I think the overall theme—we know less than we think we do about what food is good for you, but what we do know is that highly processed, factory produced convenience food like we keep eating in America is worse for you than just about anything else out there—is worthwhile.

Seamus said that In Defense of Food is for people who didn't get The Omnivore's Dilemma. I sort of disagree; they reach similar conclusions but The Omnivore's Dilemma seems more focused on the ethics and sustainability of eating, while In Defense of Food seemed to me more about the nutritional and cultural aspects. Different takes on the same theme.

And I still ate cereal with creepy dried strawberries in it for breakfast, while sitting on the couch on the laptop. Ha.

I slogged through the first half or two thirds over the summer, suddenly decided to move to the Yukon, got settled here, and then the last 300 pages or so demanded that I read them as quickly as possible. When I was done, I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. I reread the first 50 pages or so a couple days after finishing, and wanted to keep going, but finally decided to put off a reread for at least a few months.
