I adored "Elegance of the Hedgehog." This takes place just at the start of "Elegance," and focuses on the Citizen Kane-ish last day of a crotchety-but-very-famous food critic's life. He's not looking for his sled, though; he's trying to pin down a specific taste in his memory.

Like "Elegance," the point of view changes throughout the book -- we're not always stuck in the mind of the misanthrope.

I am giving this three stars, even though for story and character, I'd give it two. The language is sumptuous, though. And, frankly, I love the descriptions of the food.
