In hindsight, you can tell this was where the book series was always headed and it was certainly entertaining, but this entire series leaves me torn. While I enjoy the story at the heart of it (hence my rating), there is really no denying that Stephanie Meyer is not the most gifted writer. Of course, her writing is not nearly as questionable as the first movie which I can only hope is not representative of what they all will be. Also, just because it needs to be said, this book will make an absolutely HORRIBLE movie.

I really enjoyed this book and found it to be incredibly powerful and thought-provoking. It makes strong arguments in support of God through the realms of science and logic, then moves on to prove Christianity. All the information presented is extremely interesting and the arguments difficult to discount. In fact, it is not a stretch it say it easily demonstrates it takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to be a Christian.

The book also logically demonstrates how many arguments against the basis of God are ill-founded and often disproving. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone having doubts or simply trying to find their way spiritually.

My only issue comes as the author tries to apply his reason and factual support to matters that are a bit more murky. For instance, his application to the entire abortion issue will leave some cold, but these instances are very isolated and not indicitive of the entire book by any stretch of the imagination.

In the end, it is still a great read and certainly a book I have and will continue to recommend to others. I am just careful to point out the flaws with the book as well. Just be careful to recognize opinion when it is mixed in with all the hard facts.

I have mixed feelings about this book.

On one hand, I think it is fabulously important that all Christians are aware of the issues presented in this book and how deeply true most of the concerns are. On the other hand, the book is very, very satistical in its approach to the subject as the author is a researcher. Analyzing surveys can only be interesting for so long.

Furthermore, the author is still VERY biased in his opinions of what he believes to be right and wrong and applies it to all of Christianity like his answers are right and others are wrong. Even though I agree with him more than many Chrisitians, I still take issue with him implying his opinions and interpretations are facts instead of simply conjecture.

I also take strong issue with the fact that he lists Mormons as a group that is outside of Christianity. While I believe they are some of the most persecuted of Christians, it does not alter the fact that Mormons are Christians.

With all these issues, though, I think it is an important book for the more conservative-minded Christians as it points out how their thoughts, words, and actions alienate people from Christianity rather than make people want to embrace it.
