This is the best book in L'Engle's Time Quintet. In Scripture it says that "God is love", not God is "loving", but God is "love". That is a challenging and unique way to look at God. An Acceptable Time touches on the nature of love and on love's role in the divine. It's relatable enough for all ages, yet deep enough to really make you think.
The story itself starts off rather slow, which is a contrast to the other books in the series which all jump into the thick of the plot without much preamble. Once the protagonist/antagonist elements make their way into the story it picks up and becomes a fun read. I felt like the ending didn't provide full closure to all of the questions that were raised, but maybe that was intentional. ]]>
What a great follow up to The Hunger Games! The action and violence continue unabated, and the underlying struggle between the districts and The Capital comes more into focus. I was rooting for Katniss as she struggles to find her plan of action, and to protect those she loves. There's even a little jr. high love triangle to provide some balance in a fast paced, action packed story. I also thought the ending was much better than book #1, although it still leaves you wanting more. An awesome story. ]]>
This was an interesting take on the story of Noah's ark. The content was a little more mature than the other books, dealing with issues of lust and violence. It only scratches the tip of the iceberg though, and I couldn't help but wish that it would delve more into the internal conflict that the characters faced as they made their decisions. The message is great though, and the tie ins with mythology and the Bible are creative. Definitely worth the read for fans of the series. This one's right up there with "A Wrinkle in Time". ]]>
