It took me a year to read this, which works itself into the 3 star rating. It's a well written book with quippy dialgue and lovely yet not too much imagery.

I really liked Elphaba and learning of her origin (I've realized in recent years that I'm sucker for a good origin story). However, since I only read this in increments spanning a year the pace of the book suffered, on top of the actual story jumping 7 or more years at a time.

I found it interesting how weak and pathetic the majority of the male characters were, especially written by a man. And some characters that played heavily for many chapters just pretty much vanished from the whole story.
