"I hated this book. Ok, to be fair, I didn't finish this book. I wanted to like it. Everyone else seems to like it. Trusted friends recommended it. It just seemed a bit too contrived to me. She was able to spend a year flitting about the globe (eating pasta, hanging with a guru.....) because she received an ADVANCE on THIS book before she went. Hmmmmmmmmm. How genuine can this truly be? In addition, I kept wanting to phone her and say "We ALL have problems dude, quit your whining already!" Honestly! If I took a trip to Italy everytime I had a meltdown on my bathroom floor, I'd have taken up permanent residence in Tuscany by now. Alright, maybe I am just jealous.
On a more positive note, I love, love, love Elizabeth Gilbert's writing style. Her wry sense of humor, I can relate to. Her language is beautiful. I highly recommend Stern Men (5 stars!) also written by her, you know, before she saw the light. (less) "
