I loved Graceling. It is one of my top 10. The action never stopped and the heroine is smart, strong and tough, yet kind and generous. While I enjoyed the romance, I thought it fell short in the end.

Fire didn't appeal to nearly as much. In didn't think it held a candle to Graceling. In fact, I probably wouldn't have finished it if it wasn't for my love of Graceling. Fire was so slow, lots of strategy and mind games, mush less action. I mean if you had trouble in Fire you sent the guy to do the fighting. If you had trouble in Graceling, you sent Kasta, so the great action always took place with our heroine. No so in Fire.

The romance fell short here too. After reading both books I get the feeling that the author has some "man" issues. It seems like her message is that girls shouldn't give themselves completely to a guy and they should always stand on their own.

I enjoy Cashore's writing, just didn't love the Fire story as much as Graceling which I thought was awesome!
