Shellie, as far as I see it Hogfather is a stand alone. Pratchett wrote alot of books which take place in the Discworld Universe, but imo you can start with any of them and still understand what's going on. ]]>
I started "Smoke and Mirrors" by Neil Gaiman. Actually I'm not so much a fan of short stories, but Gaimans stories have a quality that intrigue me. ]]>

Aww really thats sweet. I know that feeling, but I have more than one book where I ended up not wanting to read the book anymore because I had just moved on with my interests.
Maybe it get's a bit easier if you know he wrote other good books, too? I will start Elantris soon and though I haven't read a page yet I have a gut feeling it will be good. ]]>
