Picked up this book on a whim while browsing and started reading a couple of pages, ended up buying it even though it was a YA novel. There are enough reviews on here with the plot summary so I'll skip it. Suffice it to say, I really enjoyed this book. I found it bittersweet and satisfying, and more than a little haunting.
A nice, interesting twist on the werewolf theme - I liked the slight grittiness and the fact that the werewolves just became wolves - they didn't have superpowers and didn't glitter or anything (good gawd). I didn't know it was going to be a trilogy - I look forward to the other two books.
I saw a clip not long ago on the Smart Bitches website that Ms. Stiefvater was writing a book about a Kraken - not sure if it was a joke or for real (I mean how do you make a Kraken sympathetic? In the Tennyson poem it sounds beastly, if not completely fugly), but if she makes it as satisfying as Shiver, then I'm game (just please don't make the Kraken glitter, honestly, I'll commit mayhem). ]]>
