The Twentieth Maine by Jon Pullen is an excellent history of this famous Civil War regiment. Although General Joshua Chamberlain is a major presence in the book, other members of the regiment of all ranks are quoted and their stories told. There are also interesting quotes from members of other regiments who fought beside the Twentieth Maine. Another virtue of this volume is the detail given the less well known actions the regiment fought in. There are good descriptions of the terrain and tactics. The information on the commanding officers, especially Generals Grant and Sheridan and how their strategies affected the troops is very well done.
