This book clarified some of the ideas I've had in my head for a long time. The organized church is a failure in its attempts to change the world on any global level. Its message falls short and makes no sense to people outside its walls. It's time to rethink the whole idea of Christianity and really "religion" in general.
Spiritual enlightenment? I wonder if any such thing is possible. I'm glad I read this book however. It helped me understand more of the amazing power of our own brain to conceptualize and believe in things that may not even exist.

A good read if you are Christian and need an egalitarian approach to marriage. It is written from a God/us position which in my viewpoint makes the relationship between husband/wife more unsteady. "Don't do to someone what you wouldn't want them to do to you." That's my mantra.

At the time I read this book, I didn't have much hope in a personal god. It gave that hope to me at the time. It's been a couple of years since I read it. Sometime soon I want to take another look at in light of what I've learned since.

(Amended comment 11/09)... Looking back now I see that this book gave me something flat and hard to stand on when I needed it. At least my perception was that it was flat and hard. It could be considered a "grace" book in Christianity today. So many Christians are looking for a gentler, kinder God. Being unhappy with the judgmental, condemning God makes room for something new. This gentler, kinder god will work for awhile. But the questions keep coming and even this type god doesn't answer them.

A continuation from The Power of Now with more details of his concepts. He teaches world consciousness by basically saying that if we are going to survive as a species on this planet, we'd better get with the idea of getting along and changing it corporately. I can't see any reason not to agree with this idea. Religion certainly is not the answer and more than likely makes matters worse in the long run.
