I have found the Septimus Heap series to be interesting and fun. I like series because the author is able to tall a better story. When think about TV shows, an half hour show is boring, everything happens to fast, and a hour show is not much better. There just isn’t enough time to build a plot. A mini series is better because a story can take place. Angie Sage has done a good job of telling a good long story. In the first book we meet a family and learn about their life and life around them. The best thing about the first book is it raps up. I could stand-alone. I have began to wonder if all series began that way, that way if the book doesn’t do good that is it. If the first book does well the author will continue with the story. The first book in this series is exciting but not overly exciting. If feels like it has been written for younger teens. As you read more and more book thing get more and more completed. You have family member making bad chouses. You see people seeing problems in their lives and changing to do what is right. Instead of having just one villain you have several and the problems the hero faces become bigger and more complicated. The down side of the series is you now have cliffhangers. The books now depend on the past book to know the story and the story bleeds into the next book. I guess that is makes a series I just thing you could over come the villain and Septimus and Marcia could sit down and debrief each other and figure out how to work together to make things better. I do not wish to be critical about the way the books are written and I don’t want to tell someone how to write their story. The other problem with a series of books is the wait for the next book. I’m sure there are seven books in this series and I just finished the fifth book. Who know when the next book will come out let alone the last. I could be waiting years to finish the series and will have forgot what has happened the first books. I like a series of books because of the better story, maybe I should wait until all the books are out before I start reading, but if everyone did that then no series would be written. If no one bought the first book waiting for all the books to come out the author would never write the second book thinking no one liked the book. A catch twenty-one for sure. There is only one thing I wish the author had done. At the end of book four “Queste” I wish the author would have told us that Jenna would have gone back to the door and removed here key just before they left. How can Jenna go back to the room in the castle where the ghost of her mother is without the key? Since they were trying to break down the door, Jenna could have removed the key without unlocking the door and no one on the other side would have checked to see if she had. We would know she had her key and she still would have escaped. Oh well maybe she did get her key or she will get another one or find another way in or never go to the room again. I guess that is something I will learn in the next two books. All in all this is a great series of books. I like the characters and the story. As I said they are interesting and fun and there are life lessons for us to learn. Thank you Angie Sage for writing this story. ]]>
