Pattern Recognition meets Special Topics in Calamity Physics meets The Crying of the Lambs. In Sweden.

Adjusting my rating down one star on this. I'd forgotten that the first half of the book is spent waiting for...plot. The long buildup is hard to pull off -- the first three episodes of Mad Men are the only example that come to mind -- here it gives that uncomfortable feeling of waiting for a piece of music to return to the tonic for roughly 200 pages.
