I stopped reviewing the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, book because a) I was reading them quickly and back to back and b) while good, they were all similar and getting harder to distinguish from each other. Obsidian Butterfly, however, warranted a review. One of my favorite things about this series is how minor characters appear and re-appear throughout the books. Obsidian Butterfly focuses on Edward, a minor character that has appeared in other books but is the focus of this novel. I enjoyed getting to see Anita focusing on friendship rather than her complicated relationships. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There was a variety of female characters, all with different and interesting storylines, but I didn't think that the book ever dissolved into cheap or annoying "chick lit" tricks. All of the characters are strong women, dealing with different roadblocks in their life. I agree with Courtney that the end of the book unraveled a bit and it was more depressing than I expected.
