This was the first biography I have read on Mussolini. I found it quite good though a bit dated. It was better than Christopher Hibbert's book on the same topic (which Istarted but could not finish as it had so much guesswork in it) The book is quite kind to the DUCE when compared with more current books such as Bosworth's Mussolini bio.

Collier did an incredible amount of research for this book and was fortunate that many of the particulars were both alive and cooperated.

I was disappointed that the Ethiopian Invasion was covered in so little detail. However, I did get my first understanding of how unprepared (and reluctant) Italy was to get into WW2 (with good reason!)
Collier also only casually mentions Luigi Romersa's assertion that he saw the NAzis explode an A-Bomb several months before the US did it! He offers no opinion on the validity of Romersa's statement only that the fear of atomic annilihation (by Hitler) got the Duce to get back into the war after he was forced out.

Overall I think the book is a good intro to Mussolini and has already inspired me to read more about this fascinating and evil (though not Hitler or Stalin level) man.
