Hi All,
I highly recommend the book "Our Daily Meds," which I think is a must-read for all adults. It tells the truly horrific role that the pharmaceutical companies, along with their bought-and-paid-for physician allies, have in killing and injuring hundreds of thousands of people a year by pushing ineffective, dangerous, or inappropriate drugs. If you read this, you will automatically do your own research before taking any meds that are prescribed to you or family members.
Best,
Dennis Fried

For non-brand-name authors like we, the chances that a publisher is going to buy that next book is highly dependent on the success of the current one. So I'm going to spend every minute of my working time trying to sell the current one, until I'm convinced that there is absolutely nothing more I can do. Then, hopefully, a publisher will be interested in the next thing I have to offer. I'm friends with some writers who, as soon as their first book is published, start spending most of their time writing their next one. I just don't get that. I don't think that's the key to success in this business. And that's just what it is - a business.

It's the old Yin-Yang pendulum. The internet (and everything else) has become so polluted with ads and come-ons that many people get so sensitized to it that they can't tolerate even the best-hearted of contributions that just might trigger a sale somewhere. What it comes down to is this. Even if you promote yourself or book in a courteous and appropriate manner, there will be some people who will take offense. You just need to carry on and write it off as the price of being an author.

I honestly believe that adults who torture or severely abuse animals should be killed. (Don't worry, I'm not speciest. I think that adults who purposely cause severe injury to other people should be killed. I also think that people who ruin lives like Madoff did should be killed.)

(In the interest of full disclosure, in another life I was a philosophy professor.)

Best,
Denny Fried

 Hi All,

I just discovered and joined this group. My little dog, Genevieve, is actually the writer in the family. I just translate her work from Doggerel into English. (She also makes me type it, since she doesn't want to get carpal paw syndrome.) I thought some of you would get a laugh out of a recent press release from Genevieve.

Here's the link:
http://www.rushprnews.com/2009/05/22/new...

(By the way, that's not a photo of Genevieve. The news service used a file photo for unknown reasons. To see Genevieve in all her glory, www.dogtellsall.com)

If you have any questions about Genevieve and her writing, I'll be happy to answer for her. It's been a very interesting story.

Best,
Denny Fried
