I highly recommend the book "Our Daily Meds," which I think is a must-read for all adults. It tells the truly horrific role that the pharmaceutical companies, along with their bought-and-paid-for physician allies, have in killing and injuring hundreds of thousands of people a year by pushing ineffective, dangerous, or inappropriate drugs. If you read this, you will automatically do your own research before taking any meds that are prescribed to you or family members.

Hi Thomma,
I have a different philosophy about working on that next book. For non-brand-name authors like we, the chances that a publisher is going to buy that next book is highly dependent on the success of the current one. So I'm going to spend every minute of my working time trying to sell the current one, until I'm convinced that there is absolutely nothing more I can do. Then, hopefully, a publisher will be interested in the next thing I have to offer. I'm friends with some writers who, as soon as their first book is published, start spending most of their time writing their next one. I just don't get that. I don't think that's the key to success in this business. And that's just what it is - a business.

It's the old Yin-Yang pendulum. The internet (and everything else) has become so polluted with ads and come-ons that many people get so sensitized to it that they can't tolerate even the best-hearted of contributions that just might trigger a sale somewhere. What it comes down to is this. Even if you promote yourself or book in a courteous and appropriate manner, there will be some people who will take offense.
