Yes, the movie is quite a bit different than the book.

There is a sequel to this book called Reflex that is also outstanding.

This is the first Bill Bryson book I have read that I didn't like. This book was very repetitive. Ride a train or walk somewhere, stay at a hotel or bed and breakfast, complain about it, drink beer, go to sleep, wake up, repeat.

I did laugh a few times but any kind of entertaining sections were few and far between.

Also, he constantly complains about old building being torn down and replaced with new stuff. I say out with the old and in with the new. I never understood why people complain about the tear-down of old buildings.
