I was a huge fan of the TV series Sex and the City, which was based off a book by the same name that was written by Candace Bushnell. Even though the show was on years ago and I loved it, I never read any of Bushnell’s novels before now. One Fifth Avenue is about the residents who live at the address that is the book’s title. It was an easy, end of day, fun read. Like Sex and the City it contained large doses of sex, drugs, gossip, backstabbing, murder, society and New York City.

I loved this book. This comes as no surprise, since I have loved everything I've read by Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, The Yiddish Policemen’s Union).

Coincidentally, the Onion's A.V. Club wrote about The Mysteries of Pittsburgh on the same day I finished it. Interesting to read over all of the comments if you have read the book.

yeh, i read this once a really long time ago.. and then read it again before embarking on the trilogy. it is more simple. . ha. maybe that's why I like it! .. but also.. it was way more familiar to me. we had this really old 70s cartoon of The Hobbit that we used to always watch growing up and my brother and I LOVED it so maybe that's why we love the book too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_(1977_film)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSHLGnexe...
I have always shied away from Chuck Palahniuk's books. I don't know why. I've heard some of them are really good.. even this book. I wanted to read it for a long time.. when my brother gave it to me it sat around my house for literally years before I read it.

I thought Fight Club was a good book. I'd already seen the movie, so I knew certain elements that probably made the book less enjoyable to read than for someone who never read the book or saw the movie. I still liked it though.

And I made it through a Palahniuk book. Gruesome at times, but done. Now I can read his book Choke, which I've been hearing is really good as well. It's being made into a movie right now so I better hurry up, lest that story be spoiled for me as well!
