I can now officially say I have watched A Christmas Carol! The muppets was on the other night and I watched it because you’d recommended it and I thought it was good, but the book still beats it :) Actually, I was surprised because I thought the muppets sounded like it might be a dodgy remake of it, but everyone seemed to think it was worth seeing so I gave it a go. Now I jsut have to watch all the other adaptations and judge which is the best so I can participate in discussions with some sense of knowledge!!

Well if you say it’s a bit slippery where you are...think of that a quadruple it and you’ll just about understand how mad it is here! Seriously, I’ve never known it as scarey lol Our road is like a really thick (lumpy) ice rink because all the snow is compacted so tight that even rain and sun has failed to budge it. We’ve used all our house salt up and our path is barely walkable (luckily there is a fence and wall each side. My dad yesterday came down in the morning and said, “I swear that cars moved you know”...went out and it had moved about a meter down the road and stopped because the tyres were turned into the curb...otherwise we might have found the car down the bottom of the hill!! Apparently golf shoes are the thing to wear if you want to keep upright!
I don’t think we are going to have any more snow before Christmas, what about you?

Maybe you could wrap the gladiator belt up for xmas...think he’d guess what it was?! At least he couldn’t shake it to find out ;) If not...sending him to my street and I think it could have the same effect for cheaper *envisages those legs in cartoons which spin in circles*

Your neighbours may not like the stair replacement, but you might as you could turn it to full speed whenever you didn’t want from knocking on your door ;)

Baum’s xmas book isn’t that good, but I guess it would do for some seasonal reading – it is mainly a description of how all the things associated with Father C have come to be (the alternative version).

Only two more sleeps now haha

Claire

Sorry I must have been half asleep when I wrote my last comment...I meant 'explained' rather than 'exclaimed'. Also, I didn't finish what I was saying lol I was going to say, but I'm a person that tends to like to know things for certain and can find it frustrating not to be able to find out a definitive answer! It's a pity we can't speak to Dicken's himself and ask what his backk story was but still have to gaps to guess ourselves initially!

When I meantioned fear opening Scrooges mind I was really referring to when Marley arrived - he was shocked my the chains and the awful wandering afterlife described etc which made him eager to hear how he could change this outcome for himself. I feel it took something like this to make him receptive to change, otherwise he would have cast aside the person's comments like he does everyone else and not taken them on board. Also the final ghost showing him his death cemented in his mind that he must change and straight away.

Regarding the poor, I agree Dicken's tried to bring their plight to the wider public's attention, but he did also show them in a bad light (as low as one can get?) - stealing from a dead man's body, but do you think this was to show how despute they really are, that they should need to? Perhaps the reader wasn't supposed to feel it was stooping low because Dicken's had made Scrooge nasty so he got is just desserts? Perhaps that he had bought it on himself and as there was no one who cared enough about him, what did it matter?
