Reading this for my book club. Just started it and am finding it an easy quick read, feels like popcorn so far.
As continued to read this book I couldn't put it down because the main character David a despicable human being whom at first you are rooting for until you realize how hideous he is; as my friend said, not unlike an internet Iago, which helps to give the book a frame of reference. I like the subject of older woman younger man relationship and the jealousy that rears up around it. The idea of the artist's muse is also ensconced in this book and reminds me a bit like Spending by Mary Gordon. Some of Nick Laird's images and words had me laughing out loud.He also uses language in an interesting British/American hybrid. It's a really quick read because you are so compelled that you must finish it.

Thanks Michelle, Yes I just recommended this to someone with math background. I read this when it was first published so it was in the recesses of my mind. What are you reading these days? Just picked a short story book by Maile Meloy which a friend recommended. I love good short stories. William Trevor is a favorite. ]]>
Great read. Hoeg writes inside a female character as if he knows what it feels like to be a woman. Beautiful and insightful writing. If you love Math it comes into play in this book in a fresh creative way. ]]>
