Living in Connecticut, I am aware of the controversy this book caused. I borrowed it because I wanted to form my own opinion. What I found was an interesting story, but the amount of time spent detailing the childhood of Joshua Komisarjevsky, the burglar/rapist/murderer/scumbag who was interviewed for this book was boring and unnecessary to me. I skimmed through it. Who cares what made him do what he did, he did it anyway. The author really doesn't make him a sympathetic character; he does, however, refer to him as "Joshua" throughout, rather than his last name, which I thought was odd.

I'm not exactly sure why this book was written so quickly. Well, I assume it was for the money. I mean, the story really isn't complete yet. The scumbags haven't even been tried yet!

I picked up this book because I was interested in learning about logotherapy. I did not expect, but enjoyed, that the majority of the book referred to the author's experience in concentration camps. When I got to the part describing logotherapy, I actually lost interest rather quickly. May very well have been my own fault. I'll try it again another time, I imagine.

This was a superb book. Examining the Biblical story of the Prodigal Son, the author brings to light the incredible depth and meaning behind the parable. The way he relates it to real life is eye-opening and fascinating.

These books are sooooooo good and this one might be the best of the bunch. The final few chapters were particularly exciting - as much as any book I've read since the 7th Harry Potter. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I love the character Emma Jean! She is so quirky and unlike any other children's book character I've read. There are certain children who would totally relate to her.

Kate DiCamillo has raised my standards so much that it really isn't fair. This was a wonderfully written story, unique and interesting. However, it just doesn't compare to Despereaux and Edward Tulane. For one thing, I'm not sure this story has the appeal to children that her other stories, including Winn Dixie, do. There were lots of characters to keep track of; perhaps, each one served a purpose that I didn't quite understand. In a nutshell: good story, but not as great as I was hoping for.

Nobody in the kingdom can be trusted. Your sister, the queen, would like you dead. Your sister's husband would force you to marry against your will. Your servants spy on you. Welcome to the life of Princess Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is shown in the book as a good person. I wonder how much of true. Even so, a really exciting story. Good for 5th-6th graders with an interest in royalty. One confusing aspect is the amount of Edwards and Catherines. LOTS LOTS LOTS. They do include a genealogy chart, which is useful.

Henk was hidden on the farm when he was young and the Nazi soldiers came. But now the war is over and Henk realizes the people he's living with is not his family. What now?

Good historical fiction novel for reluctant readers. The voice used by the author is rather simple while the content is definitely for older primary students. Only 101 pages.
