This is my favorite of the Wallander novels to this point. It is well-paced, well structured, and is better at keeping some of its surprises in reserve than other titles in the series. The lead characters and the minor characters alike continue to develop and evolve. This is not Great Literature, necessarily, but Mankell consistently produces detective fiction of the highest order. ]]>
