The Neon Rain is one of the earlier Robicheaux novels, and it gave me some insight into Dave's earlier life and why he made some of the choices that he did. In The Neon Rain I learned that there were definite reasons why Dave, being the dedicated lawman that he is, does not always go "strictly by the book." In this case he is working to solve the mystery of the death of a young black woman whose body he discovered while out fishing. He is drawn into a web filled with seedy people who live a criminal lifestyle. Tough and gritty, but it also has its tender moments.(less) "
