I am reading Ghost in the Machine by Patrick Carman. It's the sequel to Skeleton Creek. Both of these books have Internet videos that are part of the stories. I didn't know if I would like this format, but it was really well done. I really liked this book about a friendship between a black girl and white boy set in 1917 Alabama. The characters are well developed and the situations ring true for the place and time period. I usually find with series that I like the first book best. I think it's because the first book is surprising, and a good writer unwraps the fictional world like a present. In subsequent books, that excitement wears off, and I settle into the unfolding of a satisfying tale. Hmm...perhaps like a love affair?
