not as compelling as uglies, but still interesting. westerfeld does much better with creating the alternate world than with the human relationships - they feel stereotypical to me (which may be the goal?) - but the ideas are interesting and definitely thought-provoking.
my only real complaint is an inability to suspend my disbelief to the degree i have to if i want to stay "in the story" ... tally is so troublesome i doubt the "powers that be" would have stood for her antics as long as they did - or give her the freedom they do. and turning her special in book three?? very hard to accept.
but, i will continue - as i always do in a series - because i need to know!!!

it was an enjoyable way to spend an evening, but certain aspects of the plot were a little ludicrous and the characters didn't appear to develop so much as flip a switch and voila! they are changed people!!
