This was a hard book for me to get into. The beginning to me was very sporadic, but I started really enjoying it once I got to the second part. The characters really came to life then, they became real to me and believeable.

Some of my favorite lines:
"George had turned at the sound of her arrival. For a moment he contemplated her, as one who had fallen out of heaven. He saw radiant joy in her face, he saw the flowers beat against her dress in blue waves. The bushes above them closed. He stepped quickly forward and kissed her."
"I want you to have your own thoughts even when I hold you in my arms."
"From a Leonardo she had become a living woman, with mysteries and forces of her own, with qualitites that even eluded art."
"'I won't be protected. I will choose for myself what is ladylike and right. To shield me is an insult. Can't I be trusted to face the truth but I must get it second-hand through you? A woman's place!... 'conventional, Cecil, you're that, for you may understand beautiful things, but you don't know how to use them; and you wrap yourself up in art and books and music, and would try to wrap me up. I won't be stifled, not by the glorious music, for people are more glorious, and you hide them from me...."

The author Anne Frank needs work. There are many additions of her diary, and in different languages. Also, there is a version of her diary that is the definitive edition, which I think should be seperate since it not the same text as the others, as it included some information that her father edited out for the original publication.
