Here's the nutshell premise: an alien from another planet drops down to earth, enters a museum, and says "Take me to your paleontologist." Sounds like a bad joke, right?

Enter Tom Jericho, paleontologist for the museum. Turns out the alien wants to talk to him because there is an amazing phenomenon that took place on his home world and Earth, AND another planet. The mass extinctions that happened on Earth at various points in the planet's history - including the eradication of dinosaurs - coincide with similar extinctions on the alien's planet. Exactly.

Coincidence? Unlikely. So it seems there is a Creator, after all, and that's what the alien wants to discuss with Tom.

It only served to confuse me while reading it. It's no wonder they chopped it out of the movie. Totally extraneous and unneeded.
