<about>Read quite a bit as a kid, but the death of my parents when I was 20 somehow took the wind out of my literary sails for many years. I still don't read as much as I used to, but at least manage to get a few good books in each year.

If someone were to have asked me in the not too distant past what I liked to read I'd tell them biography and Vonnegut or Pahlaniuk. These days, as I start to collect Harry Potter and vampire books, I'd have to cop to my current proclivity towards the easy readin' fantasy or paranormal genre.

I always have alot to say about everything, so this is my kind of place. </about>

i really loved this book. generation kill reads like a snapshot of the invasion of iraq. the author was embedded with recon marines at the "tip of the spear" for about the first 45 days of "operation iraqi freedom" and roughly 16 missions. it was unbiased, honest and funny. i'm not usually able to get through books in the war genre, but evan wright explains the complicated stuff in simple layman's terms. this matter of fact, "inside scoop" or "warts and all" approach suits me just fine and made it really easy reading. by the end, i felt i had a taste for what the soldiers go through (good or bad), what they do and learned a bit about what a cluster fuck this war has been from the get go. i also recommend the HBO seven part miniseries of the same name.
