Good book about hiking - well mostly about hiking. Lots of preaching about government agencies and forest service – not much positive. Some interesting - gets you thinking about nature and what we have Vs what we have to loose, others just soap-box. I did loose respect when I saw he is now living in England, so listening to his comedic criticism of the American way was a bit irritating.
As far as the story, I like to hike and can imagine what he went through. Interesting hearing him talk about huge 4000 ft peaks when we have 14,000 foot peaks outside our doors. Guess it is all about vertical rise (yes - we still have 6000 foot rises in Colorado!). Makes me want to grab my pack and camp at some high-mountain lake. However, to really appreciate this book, you need to do some packing yourself. Hiking in the woods for 6 miles is nothing like taking a walk on the road and unless you experience it, you may not appreciate how difficult it can be....less

I hate to give it a 5 star rating (feels too band-wagon'ish), but it was a good book and nice finish to the series. Great liturature - no. Great fun and easy read - yes. Even kind of tear jerking at times. Anyway, I do recommend that you have read all the other books to improve your enjoyment of this one - too many ties to the past books and if you don't know the story you may not be able to follow or enjoy as much. Remains one of those "good guys win" books....less

Not a bad book - entertaining and quick read. Also a one of Stephen Kings easier books to travel with (i.e. I did not need a special carry-on to hold a 500+ page book). This is one of those books where you end up rooting for the "evil" character and hope things turn out for him. Seems to be a guy that comes so close to having the break he needs to have a good life, but things go south at the wrong time. Not a great book, but it was good enough to keep you interested from start to finish....less
