My Dad said in his day this was considered borderline porn, and I can see why. The author spends most of the book describing in detail his personal sexual exploits while in France. Much different than most of the top 100 books that I have read. I end...more

This book was ok. I liked A Passage to India much better. The story line in this book was not that interesting. I didn't find Lucy Honeychurch to be a likeable main character.

It gets 3 stars because it was well written and had a few good passages/me...more

An easy read, this book was a look at 10 people from pro, college and high school football that were influential in Bill Curry's life. The chapters on Don Shula and Vince Lombardi were the best, not surprisingly. I also enjoyed the chapter on John Un...more

Even as a sports fan, I had trouble with this one. Perhaps if I lived in England and was familiar with the teams, players and stadiums it would have been better.

There were a few parts in the book that I could relate to as a Dodger fan that hasn't se...more

A good book from the Top 100 list but ~900 pages long. This was a record breaker...I had to renew it at the library 5 times. After the 3rd time they actually made me bring it back and it had to stay on the shelf for 24 hours. Not surprisingly, nobody...more

Fresh off reading Miracle Ball, I heard that this was a book that described the same time period. Though it's a memoir, Doris Kearns Goodwin actually grew up in that time period and was a big Dodger fan. Much of the book tells stories of her love for...more

Very enjoyable story from the top 100 list.

Great account of an author's search for "The Shot Heard 'Round The World", Bobby Thompson's homer in the 1951 playoffs vs. the Dodgers. I really enjoyed the beginning of each chapter where the author flashes back to the child hood memory of the event...more

I could have thought of another 1000 reasons. If you are a Dodger fan, it's a good coffee table book to have out. Lots of good pictures and you can read it in <30 minutes. How can you go wrong with Sandy Koufax on the cover?
