Thanks to all who attended the final book group of the year!! where did it go??
We discussed Doris Lessing - The Grass Is Singing, a book I personally didn't enjoy at all, but most of the others really or quite enjoyed, the descriptions of late 40's South Africa/Rhodesia was excellent, though no-one seemed to like any of the characters of the book, overall 3 out of 5 for this month's book. We will be discussing Daphne Du Maurier - Jamaica Inn in the first meeting of 2010. Thanks to all who attended the final Thursday Book Group of 2009. Discussed Margaret Forster - Daphne Du Maurier,
a lot was talked about the book and a complete opposite view of book compared to the Tuesday Group who read it earlier this year. The book was well written, though some sentences were a bit chunky according to some. How her writing was more to her than her children was also mentioned. Looking forward to next meeting as we approach 10 years of the Thursday Book Group where we will be discussing William Trevor - Cheating At Canasta.

Thanks to all who attended an excellent book group. A lot of discussion about a book that hardly no-one enjoyed. I read the foreword and that might as well have been the book!!! Though a couple of people did enjoy the book. A lot was talked about there not being an ending.
I didn't actually like any of the characters and found it probably the hardest book to read this year which is saying something because we had a Jane Austen this year. look forward to the last meeting of 2009 where we will be discussing Doris Lessing - The Grass Is Singing.
