I really enjoy Robert Leckie he writes what are usually called something like "popular books on military history". So I'm sure there is wiggle room at least on his opinions, but when I read his books I come away with a sense of the conflict he's writing about and the people who were involved. There is a whole range or scale between strict history and then historical fiction. This book (300) if enjoyment, then there are books that fall elsewhere on the line.

Well, he should find something to do and spare us his attempts at writing....only he's getting rich from those who have mistaken his books for literature.

Another book I read years ago and remember enjoying, though it made little impression on me. More good vs. evil Susan possessed, driven to "other realms" ending in a pitched battle. As I said, an enjoyable youth book.

Not impressed. Comparing these to Lewis and Tolkien is a BIG stretch. This is the second book in the series and I must say I was seriously disappointed. The comparison to Lewis or Tolkien peobably caused me to drop my rating...I even considered a one. Decide for yourself about this but There is for me a feeling of what could have been in these books. The writing itself isn't the problem it's just (and this is my opinion) the story feels awfully flawed.

I wanted this to be a better book, I really wanted to like it. And since it's been made into a movie (more or less)I'm sure some do love it. So, as I said, decide for yourself.

I listened to this (unabridged) a while back My wife enjoyed them far more than I did. I say that to be fair. My ratings are based on my views and feelings and I really wasn't that impressed with these, not as I might have been. Were my children still young I probably would not aim them at these books. Decide for yourself.

I founf the first book book fairly interesting, enough so that I went on to the next. But through the entire series I wasn't happy with the way the story went and always "felt" it could have been better.

If you read The Color of Magic, you most probably got this book as the the one preceding it (the aforementioned The Color of Magic) ended with Rincewind falling off the edge of the Discworld.... talk about a "cliff-hanger ending". In this one we'll go from there to what could be the end of the Discworld itself and possibly, well everything else. It all depends on Rincewind....scary thought that.

"Synopsisizers" (I believe I just made that word up, so bear with me, please) anyway, "the people who write synopses" love to say books (and for that matter movies, TV programs, songs, poems, and everthing else) is "irreverent". They think this will appeal to the rebel in each of us I suppose. In this case Pratchett's writings do tend to skewer "dogmas" but he does it pretty much across th board getting the irreligious as well as the religious. I'm a Christian and haven't found myself "outraged" to the point of hurling the book across the room. I enjoy Sir Terry's work and while I'd probably disagree with him across the board on spiritual atters, I think I'd like him.

I think that most anyone with an open mind (and maybe are sure what they themselves actually believe and realize that this is that arcane "thing" called "humor")can enjoy the Discworld books.

I almost put three stars here, but how does someone "down check" Robert Frost. It's just that I like some of the poems and not some others. Still this is a book of poems that do speak and do stay with you so...4 stars.

I don't think I've ever read a poetry book from cover to cover, but instead open up the covers and either search for a poem I'll like or "luck dip".

I've had this a long time and don't take it down like I once did, but then I don't often have the peacfulness of mind needed for that pass time.

I give this four though I have not read it all and I've had it on my shelves a long time. I like poetry....at times. A poetry book is (for me) a book you read in not so much a book you (I) sit down and read cover to cover.

Yes I know some of you do, and I'm happy for you.

I don't often seem to have the "quietness" and Peacefulness" of mind required to sit and read poetry the way it needs to be read. When i do however I like Lord Tennyson.
