Quick enjoyable read leaving you yearning for more vowels and consonants from the writer, an obvious history buff. Could consider assigning this to my AP US History students.

A little bit of a letdown from this series' great first offering. Does provide some nice character development but the story itself wasn't as riveting.

Outstanding and exhaustive look at life in America between 1815-1848, starting with the short-lived Era of Good Feelings and concluding with the tumultuous revolutions of 1848. Howe doesn't hold back any punches (especially with his lack of respect for Andrew Jackson) and offers even looks at some other important figures during the era such as John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, James Polk and John Tyler. It's a little light on the Gold Rush and heavier on The War with Mexico, but at almost 900 pages, there's almost nothing during this era the book totally ignores. A great addition to the historian's library for anyone interested in the antebellum and well-worthy of its Pulitzer Prize.
